Is your dog registered with a kennel club? What about the mate?

While we're on the topic of breeding, what championships do both of the dogs have? Daschunds are plagued with health issues, have both of them been cleared by orthopedic specialists prior to breeding?

Only two KC registered dogs can breed pups that qualify for KC registration.

Like Sariss said, Dachshunds are riddled with health problems, genetic defects etc. They also seem to be the breed of choice for backyard breeders and puppymills. Why, I don't know.

To be a legitimate breeder that will breed better bloodlines and good quality pups, you need to spend a lot of money for genetic testing, the best stud and or dam and the best health care available.

Legit breeders don't do it for the money, because really, they usually don't come out ahead. They breed to preserve the bloodlines, to better the breed.

Backyard breeders breed because they want to, think it's their right and for the money. They are they reason that so many genetic defects are being passed down to future generations.

Since you're asking this question, a question a legit breeder would know, I'm guessing you're a backyard breeder.

Please don't breed unless you know what you're doing in every respect.

I respect what you are saying and would like to say it was just a general question that keeps arising when I take both my dachshunds out together. I couldn't breed from them as I've had both of them spayed and nuetered . They are both kc registered. It was really to know if a litter was accepted as breed standard between a short and long haired minis.

I'm glad to hear you're not breeding them. Sorry if I jumped to conclusions, we get a lot of backyard breeders coming to this site, you'd be amazed. Also, the breed of choice lately is dachshunds, one of the most difficult breeds to breed well because of all their genetic defects and health concerns.

I hope I answered your question.

    Good luck.
