Leash training varies from dog to dog.

We usually put the leash on the dog and try to coax them along with treats, not putting any tension on their throat to begin with.
Once they are walking along with the aid of treats well, then you can start adding tension to the leash.

Another method is to first use a collar with no leash so they get used to the sensation of something around their neck, then start adding weights to the collar or even just lengths of rope.

For the smaller dogs, like Pomeranians you typically should be using a harness not a neck leash because the neck is so small. I have a 8 week old Pomeranian named Simba and he loves to walk outside even in the cold and snow... LOL!

Show Pomeranians have no trouble using a neck leash or collar, my poodles HATE harnesses although yes it is another option.

We would love some pictures dsimmons, baby poms are so cute.

I would try using a harness, some dogs adapt to them quicker then collars. I find with larger dogs, it gives them that instinct to pull, but it seems to work with smaller dogs. At 4 months he is probably testing the waters to decide who is boss. I have been training my 5 year old boxer mix to walk politly on a leash, try training in doors as well as out doors.
I put the leash on and call her name in a really excited voice, and then LOTS of positive re inforcement. THis will also help with the "come" command. I even trot around the house with her leash in hand excitidly calling her name along with me. Just remember to not reward when they jump up at you.

Thank you.. he is really a good puppy, doesn't bark a lot and his training is really coming along. He loves to play but my 11 year old son loves to play as well (so it works out).

I see your poodles (they are precious), do you have two (black and white)?? What are their names? How old are they?

No I have a Boxer Am-Staffy mix. But friends of my family used to breed Pom's and they were gorgeous! Lots of work I bet! Good thing you have your son there to help wear off some of his energy! :)
    Happy Holidays to you too!

Yep they are my fur balls Brody (white male) and Prada (black female) both 2 years old (nearly 3)

I love that you said the word 'training', it's very important at this age. A lot of people make the mistake of getting a new puppy and letting it 'settle in' for a few months before training. Training needs to start the day the dog gets home, that way it can't learn any bad habits you have to correct later ;)

    Have a great Christmas!

Haha I think next time I should tidy up my house before I take pictures to post on a national web site! But most of the things you see are doggy toys lol.
