My husband and I just moved into a brand new apartment, Our 2 female dogs ( one bassett hound and one min pin ) have started peeing in the house. Now the husband says the dog's have to stop it or they have to go! I don't know why they would do such a thing as they get let out several times a day to do their business. Just yesterday we found out that our bassett peed all over our comforter and sheets to the bed! My husband was horrified! What could be causing this and how do we get it to stop before they ruin our new apartment!! :confused: :mad:

Just an idea but could it be that they are actually upset or distressed over the move? Anyone else have an idea or know about this?

I'm not sure why my dog's are doing this. They don't seem upset from it and there's even a nice dog park in our apartment community that we take them to. If anyone has help, PLEASE let me know, they're driving me crazy.. ALSO I forgot to mention earlier, that our bassett isn't spayed, could that have something to do with it?

The dog's are 3 years and 2 years old, they don't usually behave like this. Both are well potty trained. I hate the thought of putting them in their kennel's all the time and not letting them have free roam of the house. And if it came down to choose my husband or the dog's I'd probably take the dogs! Haha!

Infamous, dogs are creatures of habit. When you change their environment or schedule, the stress it causes depends on the dog. Sounds like they are having a hard time of it. Please do not use a rolled up newspaper or rub their noses in their urine. Those are very old and harsh methods and teach a dog to be fearful of their owner. You state the apartment is new. It may be new to you but did other people live their prior to you? It is quite possible these other people had dogs or cats that peed in the apartment. You may not smell it but your dogs certainly can. They are marking their territory. And yes, spaying the dogs does usually help with the territory marking.

For now, until they adjust to their environment, crate them when you aren't around. You would do well to start the housebreaking training again from scratch. I think you will also benefit from reinforcing your leadership training.
