Our daughter and son in law live in our basement apartment. They have a 2 year old female spayed Pug. We live upstairs and we have a 2 year old neutered male Shiz tzu. The dogs stay and play together all the time. The Pug sleeps downstairs and our Shiz tzu sleeps upstairs with us, other than sleep time, they are almost always together, whether it is upstairs or downstairs. We always have to watch the Pug when she is upstairs. Initially if she were on our bed, she would urinate there. So we don't allow her on the bed. That worked for a while. Now if there is a pillow, blanket or some some clothes on the floor, she will urinate on them. She has even progressed to urinating on the carpet in two distinct places, my office and in our sunroom, same place each time. Needing to go to the bathroom is not the issue as there is a doggy dog that is always accessible. My daughter says she doesn't do any of this downstairs, just upstairs with us. What is going on with this PUG?

Well dogs remember scent, I think maybe if you get new bedsheets and pillow sheets it would prevent her from peeing.
Because even though you washed it the smell is still there, just how when it rains a dog still remember where it pee'd .

Walk your dog every 2-3 hours. Maybe its has weak bladder?

My guess is that if she is doing it in your apartment and not theirs that it is a dominance issue. She needs to understand that she is not the one in charge there.
1 of 2 things should 1.work, show her your in charge by being the leader. 2. do not allow her into your apartment.
Do not hit, slap or yell at your dog no matter how gently, that will only cause more dominance problems or fear, which can result in submissive peeing, biting, tearing up items or fighting with your dog for top rank.

Doesn't matter. We could go for a long walk and she will still urinate inside, there is something psychological going on.

She said she has a doggy door that is always available. If you are sure that Miss Pissy doesn't have any bladder or urinary tract issues that a Vet may need to be aware of, then I would try watching her when she goes near the areas of the house that she seems to enjoy marking. It's time consuming but if you scold her as she goes near those areas it may help. This may be a question for labman. Also, he does have articles already posted about housebreaking and training. You may find some of those helpful. You can find them as the first thread under the dog link. If not, maybe he wouldn't mind if you sent him a private message. He really is the man when it comes to his answers.:)

Oh I guess its different for each animals..
After we pat my dogs on the butt if they pee'd they just wag there tails and go do what they normally do... Haha
Hm I don't know.
Then again my dogs walk them self so there weirdos.

She is letting you know who is in charge. Such behavior is very common up until they mature at 3 years old. The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts. Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog. Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones. You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat.
