Dogos argentinos, in the vets don't do ears crop around here.

Beautiful dogs. I take it yours is pure? Does he/she have pink on his nose as well as the black? How old is your dog?

The dogos for cropping are:
5-1/2 months, 3 months, 3 months.
Yes, they are pure breed.
They already have their nose black.

Deffinately find a vet to do it. This may mean you need to drive a lto farther to do it but don't risk infection, and disease from some one who claims they can do it. Make sure they are CERTIFIED or LICENSED

By the way, ear cropping is illegal in parts of canada. There is no gain to ear cropping other than looks. If you are not going to show them, save them the PAIN and risk of infections. Besides those dog are beautiful with out the ear cropping!

In my agree, I meant to say inhumane not humane. I really wish that people would put themselves in the place of their animals when they are opting for elective surgeries. When I was young I worked in an animal clinic that performed cropping.
To the op a lot of doctors will not do it now because they are past 12 weeks.

Is not inhumane, I don't see it that way, there are others things unethical that people do and nobody say anything about and think that is fine.
There is not pain, the only reason for the pain is because of a bad vet (or no experience), or a owner that have no idea about taking care of their dogs.
Dogs are dogs, and people is people. I don't choose what my dogs want, is the way they have to be.
I respect your opinion but dogos are made to be with cropped ears and hunting.
Taking dogs for hunting with long ears could be more painful.

Just my two cents, I realize others have different opinions, and this is probably not high on the list of major problems facing dogs.
I love the look of a cropped Doberman (my breed of choice), but I personally would never have one done. THe best descirption I have heard for ear crops, tail docks, declaws and the like, is "elective mutilation". There is no way a sensitive area like an ear can be sliced off without pain, no matter who does it. There are better pain control methods available now than in the past, but they cannot eliminate pain.
Hound dogs with long floppy ears seem to do fine when they hunt, usually some briar scratches, but that's about all.
I also think that it takes away an important method of communication between dogs.
If the dog could choose and thought he looked better with cropped ears, then that would be okay (it has taken me 52 years just to get my ears pierced, lol!)

I'm not sure about the ages. I'm not sure I remember exactly what a Dogo Argentino looks like, but I want to think they crop their ears extremely short, so the age probably wouldn't be as critical as for a Dobie or a Dane with a lot of ear left to support.
(Useless Knowledge Woman has hit a bump in the road and must go research what these dogs look like!)

Quick Google search, and yes, most of the crops are very short; a saw a couple that were a little longer, and quite a few with natural ears.

The only thing the OP wants to hear is WHERE they can get it done.

I ran across where somebody else asked this question and the OP answered the same way as they are here.

Just a note. The Dogos Argentinos American club recognizes both Dogos with and with out cropped ears. They also have several picures of Dogos HUNTING with out their ears cropped...

I don't care what people think about ears cropped, is the way they have to be, argentinean dogos have to be with the ears cropped and hunting puma, wild boar or peccary.
I also don't care what the clubs recognize, there is an Standard for this breed written by Antonio Nores Martinez (dogo creator). That is all I care.
So do not spend too much time trying to change my mind.

I think cropping ears is disgusting and that you shouldn't do it. What does it do for you? And do you know how much pain your poor puppies go through? Its like cutting the tips of your fingers off... but if your going to follow through with this make sure it's a professional and someone who will do it correctly with the least amt. of pain

Hi, I don't know about which vets but I have someone looking for a Dogo, not sure when he was planning on getting it but he told me to start looking for contacts around Winnipeg for him (as he has no computer). As for humane and inhumane... cropping is actually quite humane for some dogs for example, my BMC has gotten his ears injured, causing pain because it is easy for other animals to grab so if they are going to be used for hunting or if your dogs tend to play rough as some of those breeds can do, or even like to swim lots to avoid infections, ear cropping can actually save them some pain. Never mind, I have taken care of puppies cropped ears before that seemed in no type of pain to me, so I think he is right, depends on how they are done and how they are taken care of... of course the first little while might hurt, but so does ear piercing! No one thinks that is inhumane! I feel that people are constantly losing their right to choose anything... can't own certain breeds, can't let your dog pull your bike, can't take a video camera to the pool, can't safety an ugly rusty car even if everything else is safe... before jumping on the "they should ban this" bandwagon people should stop and think of freedom... as this should be a country of free choice. I feel the loudest "opinions" are usually from people who haven't seen the other side like the ear infections for non cropped dropped ears, bite wounds and the like that could have been avoided if they had been cropped. Not saying its good or bad, saying people should have the choice.

I don't think it is abusive as it affects them for a short time, then it is done and over with. Then they are free the rest of their lives. To me, if you want to call something like that abusive, I call many pet owners abusive that cuddle their dogs so much (among other things) they actually create separation anxiety in their pets to the point where the dogs are completely filled with anxiety and fear and stress when the owner is gone! Yet those owners are all called "good" because they love their animals so much and isn't it a shame their pet responds like that... when many of the cases could be solved by establishing order in the house but to them that is "cruel" can't keep fluffy off the bed or have him see me eat first! (not saying things like that are the only solution just saying often it is as simple as that) That is abusive to me. Or all these people with overweight DOGS! You control how much they eat no dog should be that over weight unless it has thyroid issues.. again abusive but you never hear people whining about those things just ear croppings?
