    Dogs itchy butt
I read in the answers to why a dogs butt is itchy. Would I be able to squeeze the glands that secrete the fluid myself?

No you can't unless you know what you are doing. Take him to the vet and have it done properly.

You can, but I would suggest taking your dog to the vet and having them show you how to properly do it. Done improperly can cause damage.

I agree with Sariss. I had a dog that had constant impacted anal glands, and I squeezed them myself. Not a fun job, and if done wrong, it can cause damage.

Take your dog to the vet, ask to observe the procedure, and ask to be taught how to do it properly.

Frankly, now that I know the cost to do it at my vet, which is minimal, if I had to do it all again, I'd pay. Doing it yourself is really not a fun chore. If you do decide to do it on your own, I suggest you invest in face masks, rubber gloves, a raincoat, and a tarp. Vicks rub is useful too, not for the dog, but for under your nose, so you can smell it instead of the horrible smell that's going to come out if you express the glands successfully.

Good luck. I don't envy you.
