    My dog as very lathargic over last 3 days not eating or drinking cant get uo not pass
    My dog a staffy he's 12 as been very lathargic over last 3 day not eating or drinking as not passed urine in 28 hours we took him to vets yesterday they said it arthirutus in his leg this can't be right he can't get up he as to be carried

    Arthrits doesn't prevent the poor thing from eating.. drinking or going to the bathroom.


    People can have arthritis so bad they are confined to a wheelchair and still do everything.

    I'd find another vet before the poor thing dies of renal failure... assuming its not too late yet.

    Oh boy, this is really bringing back memories.

    The same thing happened with my 10 year old border collie. Only difference is that he drank, in fact he drank a lot, but would throw it all back up again within minutes. He wouldn't eat at all. We went to the vet, they said it was pain in his leg, sent us home with medication to relieve pain. We gave him the meds (it was tricky, how do you give a pill to a dog that won't eat, not even when we wrapped it in bacon). Nothing changed, in fact, he got worse. Two days after the meds we were back at the vet, at this point he couldn't even stand up by himself, couldn't even lift his head. They did more testing, and told us it was best to put him down. We never really got an actual diagnosis, but the vet thought it was cancer.

    I would definitely get a second opinion. A dog that's not eating or drinking, not even passing urine, needs to be hydrated. Right now I'd give him pedialyte. Put it in a medicine syringe (you can buy them at the pharmacy) and force feed him the peidalyte. The pedialyte can also be bought at the pharmacy. It's perfectly safe for dogs, it's used to rehydrate babies when they've had excessive vomiting and diarrhea.

    Did the vet at least give you pain meds if he/she thinks it's pain from arthritis?
