My dog is dehydrated and won't eat
A couple weeks ago my dog ate a large piece of string and is trying to pass it through his system now but it won't come out all the way. He started throwing up yesterday and won't eat and can't hold down water unless I give it to him in small amounts. I tried taking him to the vets. They want money upfront, but I won't have the money for 4 days. What should I do to keep him hydrated until then?

Pedialyte is a good rehydrater for dogs.

Is this the only vet in your area? I would consider changing vets for sure! How about a neighbouring city, if there are no other vets where you live. I am appalled at this vets behaviour, and would definitely take my business to someone who is actually in the profession because they care about animals! Did you explain your dogs symptoms and your situation to them? Call around to other vet hospitals, and see if you can bring him in, and pay in 4 days, or arrange a payment schedule. Most reputable vets will work with you on this, as it is an emergency! Your dog has got an obstruction, that needs to be taken care of ASAP!

In the meantime, buy a large plastic syringe from the drugstore, and give him Pedialyte through the syringe, and try giving it to him every few hrs to keep him hydrated.

Is he eating anything? If not, you may want to also give him a no sodium chicken or vegetable broth in small ammounts for nutrition, until you can get him to the vet.

I would really try the other route though, and try another vet. If there isn't one, try asking a family member or a friend for a loan that you will pay back in four days. If this was my dog, I would be using any means to get the money to take him in for treatment. I would even start selling things at a pawn shop if that's what it took.
