Dachshound doesn't want to go outside to pee or poop
My dachshound doesn't want to go outside to pee or poop. I spend a lot of time waiting for her. She doesn't even walk she just stands there until I bring her back inside and when she's inside she goes in the house. What do I do?

Some details like her age and if she ever did any better would help. Go to the housebreaking sticky at https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/dogs/i...tml#post251809 It has details on recognizing when to take her out and to keep her moving outside. Activity stimulates the body to eliminate. Walk her, play fetch, etc. just so she is moving, or at least until she start sniffing around looking for the perfect spot. When she finally goes, praise her and take her in.

She doesn't sound like the case that will put off going if taken back in too soon. Some dogs love being outside.

Will she chase a stick or ball? You could work at teaching her to heel on leash. With her on the left, call her name and heel, and start walking. If she doesn't come too, turn around and try to coax her. If that doesn't work, drop behind her and run in baby steps while calling ''Go, go, go!'' in an excited voice. Do whatever it takes to keep her moving until she stops to sniff. Work on other obedience too. Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog. Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones. You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat. Start at Raising Your Dog with the Monks of New Skete You may need to work from a book for now, she is a little young for most puppy classes. Other good books are listed in the sticky too.

If she has spent most of her 4 months in a kennel with little contact with people and hasn't been outside, you may have a tough time of it. It is easiest to teach many things between 6-12 weeks. Undoing neglect in that important time is tough. You may need to use treats. Dachshunds are known for being stubborn. They are also usually well food motivated. You will just have to be smarter and more stubborn. Let her see you have a treat. Toss it a short distance away. If she doesn't go for it, pick it up and don't throw it so far. Once she goes for it, work at throwing them farther and farther. Whatever it takes to get her to move. At 4 months, the time between eating or drinking and when she needs to go out will be a little longer as I explain in the last paragraph of the sticky.
