7.5 y/o pointer-terrier peeing and pooping in house
Our 7.5 y/o part pointer-terrier mix is starting to excessively pee in the house.

She goes through phases with this... the peeing, we were told, is probably the cause of a steroid shot she was given last week for allergies (biting her paws). We had tried benedryl as the vet recommended, but, unfortunately, she found it every time, and after six times of her spitting it out in peanut butter and cheese, etc. we had to opt for the shot. Her paws are finally healing, but now she is peeing everywhere... she goes out early in the morning 6:30, and can usually hold it until I get home at 4:30... with the steroid shot she has been peeing everywhere, even when we're home. :(

This has been an on and off problem for over the past year now when she isn't on a shot either. We have had numerous blood tests done, thorough examinations, and second opinions. Everyone says she is in great health. Before the shot, she actually pooped on the guest bed that she is allowed to lay on, and then next to it. When she used to poop in the house it was always by a window or door. This is getting ridiculous. We are trying to sell our house, and she is destroying it quicker than we can sell it... Please help! We think it's behavioral related because this is ongoing without the steroid shot in her system... my husband has even gotten up in the middle of the night to let her out (after she goes out at 10:30), and has found several pee puddles and poop.

Please help us... we're thinking of crating her now, but we think, at almost 8 y/o (in January), that is cruel, especially since she has the run of the house for so long...

I have a 130 pound German Shepherd with severe allergies. We've been trying to get to the bottom of the "puzzle" for months. She got a steroid shot yesterday and the excessive urination has already started. She has to urinate at LEAST once an hour but it's nothing she can control. It's the steroids.

You can only imagine how much urine is in a 130 pound dog!

It's something I have chosen to live with. It's beyond her control and punishing her, pointing it out to her, crating her so she has to live in her own urine, is not going to change things.

I know it's frustrating but is there some way maybe you could gate your dog into one area, one room, perhaps a bathroom? I cannot do this because I have two dogs and they panic when they are apart but if I had only the one, this is what I would do.
