11 week old puppy swallowed a skinny but long 40% rawhide bone, should I worry?
My puppy, who is 11 weeks old, was given a treat yesterday. The treat is a rawhide bone that has chicken surrounding it. The package says that the treat itself is only 40% rawhide.

What happened last night is that he got the treat but I tried to take it away because I was scared he might choke on it... This is when he decided I couldn't take his precious treat away and ended up swallowing the entire thing quite quickly.

He didn't choke on it and it seemed to go down fine. He hasn't vomited at all and is drinking water like normal. I took him out to go and he peed but he didn't poop. He hasn't had breakfast yet since it's not his scheduled time but he seems to be unaffected by the swallowing of the treat.

Everyone tells me mixed things. "Dogs can't eat rawhide at all, they'll choke on it !" or "You'll be surprised what you find in your dog's poop ! I found GI Joe dolls, clothing, and tons of cotton balls from women's pads !" Should I be worried or is this another case of wait and see how he eats or if he poops okay for the next couple of days ?

It can take up to 3-4 days for a dog to show signs of a blockage sometimes.

Just keep a very close eye on him, make sure you take notice of whether he is pooping or sturggling to poop and check his stool color.

You should be OK but if you see any changes in behaviour you need to get him to the vet immediately.

    Thanks shazmataz !

He just had breakfast and ate normally. I took him out and he pooped 3 very large stools and seems perfectly fine. No struggle here ! I think he's going to be okay =o)

Few more days of this and he should be fine :) I agree with shaz. I'm glad he is pooping and eating for you. That's very good. Good luck.
