Acer Aspire M1640 not booting
Hello all.
I have an Acer Aspire desktop (M1640) that I purchased just over a year ago (as in... my warranty has expired... just barely, but expired). The other day, the computer froze, I tried the usual, alt + tab, ctrl + alt + del to try and get to task manager, but nothing worked, so I manually rebooted it. When I turned the computer back on, nothing came up... The monitor works (I've tested on another computer, same with the cable) and it wasn't the video card (which was suggested to me that it could be). The computer powers up, lights are on, fan is running, when a CD is in the drive its reading it - but still nothing on the screen. Just "No signal".
Any suggestions as to what may be wrong with it? Acer said "its a shame its broken, but you can call us for $59 for a half hour of verbal service"... B.S.
Thanks everyone! I REALLY appreciate it!
Regards,
Jessica

Do you see the POST when computer is turned on, or you see nothing at all? Are there any beeps?
I had a similar problem a while ago, with an older computer. It worked fine, than one day it decided not to show anything when I powered it up (just like you described above). It was an IBM 300PL, and I had replaced the CPU with an upgrade. It ran fine for more than a year, than, as described above. I did keep the older cpu, just in case. I took out the 'upgraded cpu' and put in the old one, and it worked fine afterwards.
Before computer froze, did you install any graphics drivers? What actions or programs were performed since last reboot on the system?
If so, as Stratmando asked above, using F8 to go into safe mode may pinpoint to driver issues or services problem.

My first troubleshooting step would be to disconnect the computer's power cord, open the case and then carefully reseat all of the components (memory, PCI cards, hard drive cables, etc). It's possible you have a bad connection that is preventing the system from booting.
