What type of pain should I be experiencing after wisdom tooth extraction?
I got all four of my wisdom teeth out five days ago. The first day I slept a lot and it wasn't bad and the second day I was feeling pretty great. On the third and fourth day pain started to worsen and today it is terrible. This morning I woke up with blood in my mouth and all of my teeth are sore aside from the few in the front on the bottom and top. My mouth continues to bleed randomly and I have severe pain. I have been rinsing with warm salt water and applying ice packs to the outside of my face. I have not been able to eat, and I don't want to do anything but sleep! What's wrong with me?

I had this done years ago and I found the pain worse in the first few days then gradually got better over 3 weeks. If your pain is worsening, after that much time, you may have an infection and you should see your dentist as soon as possible.

Do you have a fever? If yes, then you have an infection, if not, you may have a dry socket and should see the dentist who removed the teeth ASAP. Call the office, there should be someone on call.

Swelling and pain indicate infection. Its normal to have pain/bleeding up to 5 days after surgery. Keep taking your meds, salt water rinses, and bite on a teabag to stop bleeding. Go in for a post-op check

Pain after wisdom tooth removal [ 2 Answers ]

OK - I had a Wisdom Tooth pulled - it was not impacted. It was full of decay under the last filling. I ended up with a "dry socket" in that tooth. Went back to my Oral Surgeon who put a "pac" in it - felt so much better. Had pac taken out - the hole is much better but the bridge in front of it...
