    Taking advantage of the elderly
My mother is 79 years old. In May 2007 she had all of her teeth removed for dentures. Since this procedure she started of by eating baby food. She is now putting all of her food in a blender. As of 11/09/07 she received her top plate that finally fits, however her bottom plate still does not fit. She still can not eat solid foods. She has become very depressed and has lost weight. I don't understand why it is taking over 6 months to get perminate dentures. I think that she is being taken advantage of. I live 1500 miles away from her. What can I do to help her?

I don't think she is being taken advantage of, my mom had a lot of trouble having dentures fitted because of bone loss over a period time. I know it is probably frustrating for her but it may take awhile just to get that bottom plate correctly fitted to match the top plate, but if she is not getting any satisfaction maybe she should see another denturist.

My Gma is going through this as well (for a year and a half now). BTW: she has seen several Dr. for her dentures. Unfortunately I don't think she is being taken advantage of... it just takes a while.

First of course with no teeth or dentures people can eat all sorts of other foods, the soreness of the area make it harder at first but there is no reason that she can not really eat all sorts of things.

Next offten as noted dentures have a hard time fitting for anyone at times.

My mom, after refusing to wear her dentures when she got quite old, gummed just about anything and enjoyed her food immensely. So go figure.
