Sounds like you have an abscess happening and that can be painful enough left untreated. The poison from that infection can also infect other parts of your body if it gets into your bloodstream. I have actually known of people experiencing heart attacks from leaving teeth unattended with developing abscesses.

By describing them as 'little needles' makes it sound uncomfortable, but they actually are not what you are picturing !

The periodontist, or whoever will do your root canal will give you adequate pain relievers to dull the discomfort. You will be quite happy with the outcome.

I have all my own teeth at 67 because of having a few root canals over the years and glad I had it done rather then have them pulled.

    Think positive, girl!

Having had two root canals done. I can say the problem that a root canal is a treatment for is very painful. But the actually process is not too bad. Your dentist will use some anethestic so you won't feel very much.

Basically a root canal is a removal of the nerve beneath the tooth.

Is a root canal a two-part process or just a one part process? A dentist told me that he'll have to file my tooth down then attach another fake tooth to my gum. He said something to the effect of making my tooth "stronger" after the root canal.

I was not given a choice of options on this, only to extract it. I don't want to do this. I know it can be saved somehow....
