Dark gums is not a typical consequence of smoking... but gum disease is (which for sure can be caused by smoking)... if that makes sense...

I'd get a check-up at the dentist for his take on both the cause and the treatment.

    Hi,
    I agree with rickj.
No, the smoking itself doesn't cause them to turn black. Chances are, you have gum disease of some type. I would see a Dentist as soon as you can. If it really is gum disease, it can cause your teeth to become loose over time, and can cause gum deterioration. I know cause I had a type of gum disease, but didn't know it. Wish I would have had a better dentist over many years!
I do wish you the best, and good luck.

From my experience they don't just turn back to the original color on their own and they are not always from smoking...

I am an african american and former smoker and was recently treated for this---its common if you have darker skin to have pigmented gums...

You you should contact a specialist who can help treat your dark gums... dentists / gum specialists / periodontists can help but most of them don't treat pigmented gums... so I looked extensively for someone that specializes in treating pigmented and dark gums... in the end I had my gums treated by Dr Farnoosh in beverly hills, Ca. This really helped me feel more comfortable smiling... he basically invented the procedure and was published extensively for it... I liked him he was very compassionate and it didn't hurt at all. He treats lots of celebrities in beverly hills... if it bothers you -- consider gum bleaching

You might want to look at his website at this link (below):

spiritoh, you might not get a reply from simonellis since he/she hasn't posted anything for close to a year. I'd suggest you call the number on Dr. Farnoosh's website or email him asking your question.

Smoking and dancing [ 14 Answers ]

This is sort of a similar question to the one I asked about wine and spirits. I know that there are some churches that prohibit smoking and dancing (not necessarily both at the same time lol). So my question is, as before, where do these beliefs come from? Dancing is mentioned lots of times in the...

Tower-Smoking [ 3 Answers ]

I smoke a lot when I'm using my PC. I know it's bad for both of us. I do have a home smoke filter next to it. My question is, can I use something(what?) in the air intake of my computer without compromising the cooling factor too much. Might it be possible to put an extremely lightly oiled...
