I can't find my retainer and my teeth have shifted. Suggestions?
So I'm supposed to be wearing my retainer every night and just recently (the week before last) my orthodontist made me this sort of 'final' set of retainers and said he'd see me in a year. I left them off for a while and when I went to put them on tonight they were not in their case. I know I'm not supposed to leave them off so I've got that lesson down now. Put them back in the case. Don't leave them just anywhere.

Usually them being outside their case means I've wrapped them in a napkin and stuck them somewhere on my desk but who knows if my mom has cleaned it off and thrown them away. It's been a little over a week since I've worn them and I have this tooth that likes to shift way way out of the way. It's already done so and if I can't find my retainer then I am going to be screwed by the time I check in.

In the worst case that I cannot find them, are there any easily accessible products that can straighten my teeth until I find them? I can't very well get another mold because my teeth are already way out of line. If not, are there any places you guys leave your retainers that I should look? Also, will my parents need to pay for me to get braces again because lord help me if they do.

So, I've looked on my desk, I've sifted through the trash, and I've checked bedside. Then again it wasn't too intense of a search so maybe I'm just missing something. I'm trying not to be panicked but just about any advice you give will help me. If there is something to correct my teeth besides braces (cheap, disposable, home remedy?) then I am all ears for it. That's what I'm leaning on right now. Thank you for reading and especially for answering.

At this point in your teeth straightening, there is no cheap way, no home remedy. Tell your mom your retainers are missing, She might even have them and is waiting to hear from you. Or she will help you look for them. Every day you delay, you are costing your parents more money.

I did tell her (I should have mentioned that) and I suppose that means I'll just have to keep searching and/or schedule an appointment and see what can be done. Thank yo for your answer.

Your orthodontist should have made a final mold of your teeth. It can be used to make new retainers. Even if one tooth has shifted, the new retainer can be modified. Were they metal retainers or the clear type?

Ok, that's good. Go to the orthodontist and have a new set made. The orthodontist can move your teeth by using a tool that makes an indentation in the retainer. It will push your tooth back into place. I had Invisalign braces and now have the clear retainers. Occasionally, the orthodontist does this to mine and within a few days, the teeth are moved back. Get there ASAP before they move more.
