Gay Couple - Meeting the parents
    Hello,
So I'm a little scared lol. My fiancé and I are planning on heading to his parents house in Mississippi this Christmas and it would be the first time that he has brought someone home. We're driving and he has shown me his house on Google Earth. I guess I'm freaking out a bit because I don't want to end up on Nancy Grace or a Milk carton lol. Should I plan for the worse and hope for the best? How should I react to his parents? It's going to be Christmas time so what should I buy them? Should I just act completely interested in all they say? Or be myself?. Which can sometimes be bad lol
    * We live in LA ad his parents in Mississippi, I'm a Californian Liberal and His parents are Southern Baptist Republicans! EEEEK

    HELP!:(

Haha "EEEEK" indeed, I can see how you would be very nervous about this. His parents know about you already I assume?
I would treat the experience as any couple, guy and guy, girl and girl, guy and girl.
I would definitely be yourself, within limits. If you are crazy around your friends you probably don't want to be that way around his parents. If you're into a lot of PDA, you may want to tone that down just because of respect in front of them.
Treat them as you would treat your boss at work. Friendly and respectable.

Just breathe! It will be all right.

I agree. I assume they know you are coming and will try to be nice to you. Don't torture yourself with thoughts of milk cartons. But yeah, don't be so formal that they don't get to know you.

I was at a gay wedding reception in June in San Francisco and one family had come out from the midwest and were obviously a little uncomfortable. But they were there and I think that was the important thing. Sisters, parents and cousins were all there. Try not to freak out. :)

PS It was a GREAT reception, very loving.

They are southern baptist replicans but have accepted their son/dau. If he/she loves you they may too.
Be yourself and stay away from showing the stereotype.

And if they don't like you you will not be the only one with parent in law issues. And the good thing about it is they live 2000 miles away... lol..
