Who's the dictator??
Hello:
Mischigan has an EMERGENCY MANAGER law that lets the governor take over ANY city that isn't performing up to his expectations. The people who were VOTED in by the people are arbitrarily THROWN OUT, and Rick Snyder's emergency manager is put IN. He just grabbed Detroit.
I've heard right wingers call Obama a dictator, but if this isn't a right wing dictatorship, then I don't know what is. So, I wonder. If we elect a right wing president, will he do that the states?

Where was you at when there was a DEMOCRAT governor with the same ability running the state of Michigan into the ground?
I seem to remember the Clintons doing exactly the same thing when they took office... throwing out the civil service employees of the White house travel office and filling those opsitions with Hillarys personal friends.
Detroit wasn't paying its bills... its the fault of the Democrats that turned Detroit into a virtual ghost town. Because that took generations to accomplish... it didn't happen over a single election cycle.

Hello again, smoothy:
So, if we elect a right wing president, it'll be OK with you if he takes over the states he doesn't like - perhaps the ones run by Democrats??
Uhhhh, so where in the Constitution does it say that?

Happens all the time in the real world if someone isn't paying their bills... its called recievership.
Why should a lefty city that's not paying its bills get away with it forever... or are the democrats trying to protect Detroitastan from getting the resident Muslims head towels in an uproar.

I love these ad hominem attacks, but throw a fact out there once in a while, smoothy. Then we can really get going.

Obamacare never went to a final vote like any other bill should have because Scott Walker got elected and eliminated the Democrats supermajority. That's the fact of the matter... deal with it.
That's where the real Dictator like behaviour resides.

Given the fact Detroit is in default... and doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell of paying off the debts they ran up... the court is going to side with the Governor who is actually trying to resolve the problem.

I'm more against the tax payers money going to bail those leftist fools out even more.
If it was me... I'd let them go in default.. and let every person collecting a pension from the Detroit city lose it. As well as every other person collecting welfare or any other taxpayer funded handout. No money no payments on anything.. and no bail out.

Hello Steve:
what would you like them to do?
Uhhh, follow the law... When a creditor goes broke it's taken over by its creditors, or it declares bankruptcy and works out a payment plan. It does NOT get supplanted by government.
That's the USUAL and LEGAL way we do things in this country.. We DON'T just put aside the VOTE of the people.. That's NOT democracy. It's tyrannical. The governor isn't the king.
More importantly, I want to know, if you think THIS is cool, when you elect a Republican president, is it going to be COOL for him to take over states in this exact fashion?? THAT'S what I want to know.

Some states laws don't ALLOW municipalities to "go bankrupt". The Governor HAS to do this... why should every OTHER taxpayer in the state have to bail out the city whoes electd officials literally broke the law spending money they didn't have to spend.
If you or I went out spending $20,000 a month when we only earned $10,000 a month.. and we blew through everything we had saved and was floating checks that couldn't possibly clear the banks... do you think WE would end up in jail? Yes we would... to the Officials of Detroit that did this SHOULD all go to jail as well.

They've had an emergency management law on the books since 1988, this one just pi$$es you off because it gives the EM the power to void contracts which means the possibility of busting some unsustainable union contracts. I KNOW you can't be upset about overriding the will of the voters because that meant NOTHING to you when Obama took over the health care industry against overwhelming opposition.
The people of Michigan can get this repealed if they want, and I'm sure there will be a number of court challenges.
