What happened ?
In 2006, a super-majority of Congress passed the Secure Fence Act. It required that no less than 850 miles of double-layer fencing be constructed on our border. But it also codified a sense of purpose and a clearly defined mission for Border Patrol, to which everyone at the time agreed. It required the secretary of homeland security to “take all actions” necessary within 18 months of passage to “achieve and maintain operational control over the entire international land and maritime borders of the United States” . What has ever come of this requirement?
Answer the open border loony left took over the Democrat party.

It passed the Senate 80-19 on September 14, 2006. Section 2(b) of the bill defined “operational control” as “the prevention of all unlawful entries into the United States, including entries by terrorists, other unlawful aliens, instruments of terrorism, narcotics, and other contraband.” Schuck Schumer, Evita , Joe Biden, the emperor in waiting and Dianne Feinstein, among other Democrat all supported the bill .

Bush lost the money in the Saddam Casino, and Obama had bigger priorities than chasing Mexicans who have been migrating north to south and back again for many centuries. Plus Mitch came in and put the cabash on everything, and now we have a dufus who got told where to go by Mexico, so we got nothing coming from nobody, because who wants to cut a deal and help the dufus any way?
Why not just blame the now self proclaimed Grim Reaper for nothing getting done since he got here.

This is what you might call a set and forget policy, it is like so many initiatives, it is self perpetuating without actually achieving anything

Mexicans who have been migrating north to south and back again for many centuries.
absolutely untrue .There are more than 76,000 illegal crossings every month sometimes by the busloads, at the rate of 2,200 a day . In our history there have never been so much ;and most of the illegals crossing are NOT Mexican.
I'll agree that Bush was complicit in this .It had nothing to do with Iraq . The Bush family has been fans of the Chamber of Commerce view that cheap labor was good .
The emperor's supplemental request in 2014 called for more funding to “repatriate and reintegrate migrants to Central America” and for a media campaign in Central America to “deliver the message that unaccompanied children are not given a permit to stay in the U.S.” It didn’t call for more funding for amnesty programs.During a national interview he said " “Do not send your children to the borders. If they do make it, they’ll get sent back. More importantly, they may not make it.” “We don’t even know how many of these kids don’t make it, and may have been waylaid into sex trafficking or killed because they fell off a train.”At least the emperor understood that Americans come first and that to care for migrants, the best recourse is to dissuade them from making the trip in the 1st place . He shut down the Texas Rio Grande Valley entry for months .
Again that was 2014 ;5 years ago. Now the open border party resists every single effort to enforce the law at the border .They prefer the cartels having operational control of the border

No doubt stemming from their days as slave owners, not unlike the Clintons and other elite families with those old roots, but you speak of a border fence, but not a barrier along the entire border. Withdraw your trade with mexico, which you maintain for cheap labour, and you will see the tide stem as the Mexicans realise that this flow does them harm too

it is trade with Mexico and the nations of Central American that will solve the problem . Tariffs will beggar their economies encourging even more mass migration.

So you're saying that if we basically impoverish the nation of Mexico, then that will encourage them to stop crossing the border? Really?

Don't knock it until you have tried it, giving them employment didn't work, building a fence was ineffective, so you need a little reverse psychology. Tariffs won't work either since it is not the Mexicans paying, what will work is an effective barrier, stay at home or don't eat, it focuses the mind. It might have been more effective if you hadn't taken Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California you would have had an effective barrier but then you conquered them and gave it back, just no sense at all

Interesting notion Clete, we do to the brown people what we did to the red people, starve them and keep them on a reservation. That may work in Australia to keep the dominant race pure and prosperous, and seems to be the dufus grand plan, but the American capitalist will eventually see new customers and cheap labor and do what it does and bring the exterminator to clear out the rats so they can set up shop.
LOL, even with our current southern border hysteria processing migrants is a huge growth industry, I mean private contractors charge the government 750 bucks a head per day, so somebody is cashing in on the crisis, despite all the right wing dufus red meat hollering points. With the big round up coming of migrants obviously you will need more bodies to cover the border and interior, so we are talking really big bucks real quick.
You under estimate American greed! Don't be distracted by the noise, follow the money.

So we issue one to everyone in Mexico and then tell them, "If you plan on crossing the border illegally, please be sure to bring this card with you so if you get caught, we will know you are an illegal?"
Build the wall. It's the only idea which has a chance of working.

Yes you americans do everything for profit and I never under estimate american greed. We don't keep people on reservations, our people are free to move around, but some choose not to, they get their sit down money whereever they live.
The solution is obvious but you won't do it, start shooting, not killing, just shooting, there will be a marked decline in crossings

Wow. What a ridiculous statement. American foreign aid is about 50 billion. Australian is about 3.5 billion. And that doesn't count the billions of dollars given by private charities or the blood shed by American military personnel in the decades past saving the rear ends of nations like yours. As they say, "No good deed goes unpunished." I oftentimes wish our country would tell the rest of the world, "You don't like the way we do things? Fine. We'll pull out and let you take care of yourselves for a few years. Maybe you'll change your mind."
We don't keep people on reservations, our people are free to move around, but some choose not to, they get their sit down money whereever they live.
Please get your facts straight. We do not "keep people on reservations." American Indians are free to live where they please, but they also have the option of staying on reservations where they benefit from a TON of government assistance. I've been there and seen it. That does not say that atrocities were not committed in the past, just as in your country, but your statement above is not true.

Yes our reservation dwellers have the same freedom. They even started a bank and a few casinos to entertain and take the gamblers money. Quite successfully I might add, and tax free since they are a sovereign nation.
Shooting without killing? What's the point? What if they shoot back?

Yeah. I wondered the same thing. Seems like a crazy idea. I'd hate to be the guy told to shoot at the illegals but don't hit them.

Since half the country is not as hyped up about brown people as the other half, and is turned off by the inhumane treatment, then what would you expect? They don't want to pay for a wall either, so guess who ain't falling in line with the dufus? Guess it's on for 2020...and beyond.
