Up in arms over their Goddess
As if the population of the world doesn't have enough reason to protest, the people Lakshmi design prompts protests | Lisa Blue hindu goddess swimsuit of India have taken exception to a swinsuit collection
It seems that Australians and Indians just aren't on the same wavelength, first there was the allogation of racism because some indian students were in the wrong place at the wrong time and got mugged, (later turned out some indians did the mugging) so what do the Indians in India do, well, riot, of course, and now an innovative Australian designer puts some Indian images on a swimsuit and what do they do, riot. I tell you it just isn't good enough, when will these wallahs learn that we do it different here. No cast marks or untouchables here but I would like to know where did they get an Australian Flag to burn in an obscure Indian city? left over from the last riot I guess

Yeah ;they should accept these inappropriate mockeries of their religion as well as Christians do in the US . Tell you what... let's see these courageous designers put the depiction of Mohammed on a bathing suit . I dare them !

I think they should start with a woman in a burka.

Tom do you honestly think we don't have Indians here, we didn't get a peep out of the Indian community here, people get around with all sorts of pictures on their clothing, nobody cares because they know no one is trying to offend

A religious icon in a bikini bottom ? Nah never seen that before. I'm a freedom of speech kind of guy ,and I understand that no one has a right to not be offended. Still I think understanding and respecting sensitivities is part of responsible behavior.
You shouldn't make laws against it ;but don't be surprised if disrespect inflames passions .

Perhaps we could swap the goddess for the twin towers or a nice picture of the Eiffel tower or maybe even OBL but I expect they will settle for a palm tree but in some circles even that could be inflammatory, it's sure to be on someone's flag

Well that is not on the same level as a religious symbol...
    But...

Go ahead... make a shirt of the Twin towers when the planes hit.maybe superimpose a picture of OBL ; and try walking down the steets of Manhattan.

I don't recall any riots but there were enough people upset that Walgreen's pulled the "Chia Obama" from their shelves.

But that's the point no one was suggesting that it would be worn on the streets of manhattan because that would being offensive and insensitive and no one was suggesting that the offending picture would be seen on the beaches of India. If I wore a shirt with the bloody head of OBL in Pakistan I could expect a reaction but if I did it in Sydney no one would care
