Stuck in the 60s Was listening to some of the oral arguments in the SCOTUS Louisiana racial redistricting case . Apparently the unbelievable argument being made is that white Dems still won't vote for minority candidates ;so special carved out racial districts are still needed Louisiana v. Callais - SCOTUSblog Alito suggested that racially polarized voting could easily be identified through statistical analysis, and it could be seen whether White Democrats vote for Black Democrats at a lower rate, for instance. Nelson told him that White Democrats were not voting for Black candidates — whether they were Democrats or not. She said there was no question that even if there is some correlation, that race was the driving factor. I guess they forgot that the emperor won 2 elections that included a majority white vote. My take is that SCOTUS appears to be willing to weaken Sect 2 of the voting rights act without completely ending it .
