On top of that the British raided Mount Veron confiscating his wealth . While he commanded the troops he lost about 50% of his wealth in lost business . The post war depression wiped out most of what remained. When he travelled to the Constitutional Convention he did it on borrowed money.
He was effectively broke

I only reference this because Trump is not taking a salary . He donates his pay .

And neither is Elon Musk for his to date unofficial role .

Trust me . Musk is paying a pretty price.
