"Perry's" prayer meeting
So Rick Perry held his prayer meeting yesterday and some in the media and a few others have been upset about it. One group sued to have it stopped, and lost.
Big deal or not?

Hello Steve:
Nahhh... Praying's cool.. It's WHO you INVITE to pray WITH that's the problem... You know, it's like eating dinner is cool, unless you eat with terrorists in Chicago. Then people think YOU'RE a terrorist. So, if you INVITE people to pray with you who think that homosexuals and Catholics are bad, people will think YOU believe that homosexuals and Catholics are bad.. If you invite people to pray with you who think that the statute of Liberty is symbol to Satan, then people might think YOU believe it too.
I don't think it bodes well for the Catholics and homosexuals living in Texas, and I don't think the Jews are tickled about it either, cause they weren't invited... But, I don't live in Texas, and don't plan on going anytime soon..
I AM glad that he let the nation know about his beliefs. Five weeks after the Sept. 11 attacks, Mr. Perry bowed his head and said “amen” as a Baptist pastor led a prayer in the name of Jesus Christ. The prayer was noteworthy NOT for what it said, but for WHERE it was said: at a student assembly in a public middle school in East Texas. Afterward, Mr. Perry said he had no problem ignoring the Supreme Court's landmark 1962 ruling that barred organized prayer in public schools.
That's problematic for me should he gain national office. Otherwise, go, Rick Perry, go.

PS> Note to clete; a refreshing CHANGE?? Didn't we just have a Christian from Texas?? We did, and that didn't work out too well for us.

There was no litmus test, it was open to all comers. No one checked your Christian credentials at the door as far as I know.

By the way, much was made of Obama's Christian in the 2008 campaign. I believe he and Hillary both had much ballyhooed Sunday campaign church events if memory serves.

Hello again, Steve:
It was OPEN, true... Jews and Catholics COULD have come... But, that's WAY different than being INVITED, and those strange fellows I mentioned were INVITED.
You DID slam Obama for "associating" with terrorists, didn't you?? Or, are you going to make me go look? Doncha think INVITING weirdo's to pray with you at YOUR event is "ASSOCIATING" with them? I do.

Glad we agree.

No need to look, I'll gladly cop to criticizing Obama for his choice of friends, including an unrepentant terrorist and his mentor for 20 years. He got through it OK, I don't think the average American is going to slam Perry for praying with, what was it 44,000 people?
Look, I didn't say it was necessarily a good idea, and he did plan this long before any talk of running for president. After all the manufactured storm here in Texas I was just curious about opinions here. You could just say this allegedly anti-free speech guy was inviting others to exercise their first anendment rights, too.

I don't see his prayer meeting a political plus or minus.
The reason Obama's religion came under scrutiny was partly for the nutjobs who insist he's Muslim ,and the more reasonable scrutiny of the extreme church and pastor he attended and called his spiritual advisor for close to 20 years.
