Happy Anniversary of the ANZAC victory at the Battle of Beer-sheva, 1917

The legendary mounted charge of the 4th Light Horse Brigade in October 1917 to defeat Turkish forces and seize the strategic town of Beersheba is remembered, not just as a great military victory, but for the incredible bravery of 800 young Anzacs on horseback that changed the course of WWI.

Battle of Beersheba: Netanyahu thanks Anzacs as thousands of Australians gather to mark 100 years - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Their victory against the Turk caliphate led directly to the process that created the State of Israel . Well done Aussies !

Yes, Tom, thanks, we had part in God's agenda, the last cavalry charge in history, cold steel against machine guns, great pity those brave horses never returned home and a great pity they couldn't have repeated the victory at Gallipoli, but then we do better when led by Australians

Yes a good article. Sometime ago I read a book by Ian Idress which contained a personal account of the operations of the Light Horse in Palestine
