Good news: Obama could control internet
Congress has proposed giving the president broad discretion over shutting down internet traffic and the Secretary of Commerce the power to collect data “without regard to any provision of law, regulation, rule, or policy restricting such access.”

The Cybersecurity Act of 2009 gives the president the ability to "declare a cybersecurity emergency" and shut down or limit Internet traffic in any "critical" information network "in the interest of national security." The bill does not define a critical information network or a cybersecurity emergency. That definition would be left to the president.

The bill does not only add to the power of the president. It also grants the Secretary of Commerce "access to all relevant data concerning [critical] networks without regard to any provision of law, regulation, rule, or policy restricting such access." This means he or she can monitor or access any data on private or public networks without regard to privacy laws.
And you guys thought Bush’s (now Obama’s) wiretapping was an outrage…

Is that the cyber-fairness doctrine ? "You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done".

Besides government computers... which they should take steps to harden... what national security threat comes from a cyber attack on Twitter ?

Interesting... Olympia Snowe job is a co sponsor .

The bill goes beyond the shutting down of the net in an emergency . EWeek has been on the case .

According to the bill's language, the president would have broad authority to designate various private networks as a "critical infrastructure system or network".
The bill would also impose mandates for designated private networks and systems, including standardized security software, testing, licensing and certification of cyber-security professionals.
Bill Would Grant President Unprecedented Cyber-security Powers

    Another power grab.

It isn't enough that the government control private businesses. Now they want to control private web communications.

I wonder if the Libs who were so against Bush's "Imperialism" are going to say a single word about this.

So far there doesn't seem to be one troublesome "Bush-like" trait or policy of Obama's that's egregious enough to ruffle their feathers. Their complaints of the last 8 years were apparently "just words."

What we are looking at is nothing short of a REVOLUTION.

The dumb masses have been duped and the New Imperialists, small in number but with seemingly unlimited money (stolen from taxpayers), and blind or bought support from most of the news media, now are in the process of cementing their stranglehold on this country.

Of course, the internet is a major target. It is nearly the ONLY source of information that is not yet filtered and pre-digested for us.

If you know how to pray, now would be a good time.

    Hello again:

"THEIR" complaints?? Do you mean ME?? If all I am is a shill for the left, then I'm going to end it right now... But, you know I call a spade a spade...

Friday afternoon, the Obama DOJ filed the government's first response to a lawsuit, the first of its kind to seek damages against government officials under FISA, the Wiretap Act and other statutes, arising out of Bush's NSA program. But the Obama DOJ demanded dismissal of the entire lawsuit based on (1) its Bush-mimicking claim that the "state secrets" privilege bars any lawsuits against the Bush administration for illegal spying, and (2) a brand new "sovereign immunity" claim of breathtaking scope - never before advanced even by the Bush administration - that the Patriot Act bars any lawsuits of any kind for illegal government surveillance unless there is "willful disclosure" of the illegally intercepted communications.

In other words, beyond even the outrageously broad "state secrets" privilege invented by the Bush administration and now embraced fully by the Obama administration, the Obama DOJ has now invented a brand new claim of government immunity, one which literally asserts that the U.S. Government is free to intercept all of your communications (calls, emails and the like) and - even if what they're doing is blatantly illegal and they know it's illegal - you are barred from suing them unless they "willfully disclose" to the public what they have learned.

    Obama sucks!

Sensitive this morning? I don’t think any reasonable person would confuse you with being a shill for the left.

    Obama sucks!
Took you long enough, but at least we’re getting somewhere.
