    CNN at it's best
CNN is reporting that the Coast Guard has fired on a boat on the Potomac River.
Update at 10:10 a.m. ET: The report of some activity on the river comes only minutes after President Obama concluded 9/11 memorial ceremonies at the Pentagon not far away.
Update at 10:12 a.m. ET: CNN says the Coast Guard fired 10 rounds at the boat.
Update at 10:14 a.m. ET: CNN broadcasts what it says is audio of the Coast Guard apparently speaking to a suspicious boat. The Coast Guard speaker is heard saying; "Slow down or you will be fired on."
Update at 10:27 a.m. ET: The AP quotes the Coast Guard as saying training was being conducted in Potomac River moments before Obama motorcade crossed.
Update at 10:30 a.m. ET: CNN quotes two police sources as saying the incident was a possible Coast Guard training exercise.
Update at 10:32 a.m. ET: Fox News quotes Coast Guard Chief Keith Moore as saying no shots were fired as part of the exercise.
Update at 10:33 a.m. ET: Reuters quotes an FBI spokeswoman as saying the agency was told by the Coast Guard that no shots were fired at a boat in the Potomac.
Update at 10: 41 a.m. ET: NBC's Pete Williams, quoting a "senior Coast Guard official," says the incident was just an exercise to "challenge response times."

Williams says the exercise was strictly a "radio exercise" and did not involve any boats or any firing by the Coast Guard. Williams reports that a "citizen" overheard the radio exercise and passed that along to some news organizations, which broadcast reports of possible shot being fired.
Update at 10: 53 a.m. ET: USA TODAY's Kevin Johnson reports that the Coast Guard say that no shots were fired and that the incident involved a "radio exercise." Johnson says the Coast Guard is preparing a statement for release in a few moments, which we will carry.

OK, I see a number of problems here.

    1) CNN talking out its a$$ again without knowing the facts.
    2) Someone high up in the Coast Guard deciding to do an exercise without informing local officials that it was an excersize.

Isn't this the same mistake that the White House made with it's close-flyover of NYC airspace by fighter-planes and AF1 a few months back? Nobody informed NYC that they were going to be conducting the flyover, and it panicked the city.

You'd think that they'd learn from the mistakes of the past.

Note: I am NOT blaming the White House or any Obama official for this one. This one rests with the Commandant of the Coast Guard and his underlings for not taking better actions to inform interested parties that they would be conducting an excersize. And for planning it for 9/11 of all days.

And it rests with CNN for going live when it didn't have the facts.

That's what I was thinking too... the Air Force One photo-op.

Also maybe not the best day to be conducting exercises when the President is in the area and given the anniversary of the jihadist sneak attack .

And it rests with CNN for going live when it didn't have the facts.
Facts sometimes are inconvenient when there is a rush to get the scoop.

    Or not.

I recently heard that Fox News Network hasn't had to retract a single story it ran in the past 5 years.

Can any other news agency say that they are so careful of getting the facts before they report them?

    Hello:

I LOVE Fox News. I'm going to march to Washington today because Glenn Beck said so... Like all good Foxies, I do what I'm told.

The funny thing is that Beck is the most libertarian of the FOX hosts. It is an interesting commentary that Ex has made him the focal point of his comments about the network. I don't have the opportunity to watch him ;but as I understand it, credit is given to him and his staff for some excellent journalism lately .And since he has gotten under Bill Maher's skin ,he must be doing a good job.

Evidently much of the information that went into the posting about Cass Sunstein was dug up by Beck's crew ;and his work about Yosi Sergant was a home run compelling the administration to reassign him. (note that they never get fired)

Regarding the massive demonstration yesterday in DC...
    From the NY Slimes :
The demonstrators numbered well into the tens of thousands, though the police declined to estimate the size of the crowd. Many came on their own and were not part of an organization or group. But the magnitude of the rally took the authorities by surprise, with throngs of people streaming from the White House to Capitol Hill for more than three hours.

Bill Maher: New Rule: Float Like Obama, Sting Like Ali

    ...
Now, I know that right now, I'm supposed to be all re-injected with yes-we-can fever after the big health care speech, and it was a great speech -- when Black Elvis gets jiggy with his teleprompter, there is none better...

If you missed it, the president attempted to merely tell school children to work hard and wash their hands, and Cracker Nation reacted as if he was trying to hire the Black Panthers to hand out grenades in homeroom

Where is the outrage over this kind of language? Yes, I understand it is supposed to be comedic, but no one on the right could dare talk like this. Sorry, I digress.

Add that to Maurene Dowd's article the other day in which she makes the argument that Wilson's outburst of "You lie" was a racial remark.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/13/op...dowd.html?_r=1

But, fair or not, what I heard was an unspoken word in the air: You lie, boy!
I've been loath to admit that the shrieking lunacy of the summer — the frantic efforts to paint our first black president as the Other, a foreigner, socialist, fascist, Marxist, racist, Commie, Nazi; a cad who would snuff old people; a snake who would indoctrinate kids — had much to do with race...

... But Wilson's shocking disrespect for the office of the president — no Democrat ever shouted “liar” at W. when he was hawking a fake case for war in Iraq — convinced me: Some people just can't believe a black man is president and will never accept it.
Nobody ever called W a liar?

    What planet is she on?

Taken as a whole, it seems to me that those on the far left are returning to their oldest and most revered tactic: "If you can't beat 'em, call em racists."

The left sure is proficient at hearing things that were never said. At least I now have an idea of why they're pushing so hard for Obamacare... they need help with those voices inside their heads.

Some people just can’t believe a black man is president and will never accept it.
And next she'll complain of people wrongly labeling Obama a Socialist. What a stupid, immature, irresponsible thing to say. The shame is people like Dowd actually believe it.

Nobody ever called W a liar?
Aside from the 4 gazillion other times Bush was called a liar, Harry Reid himself did so and never apologized.

So if Beck starts using racial epithets like Maher he'll no longer be a train wreck?

P.S. Is it really necessary to hog so much space?

Don Imus was also just a comic . He didn't get a pass. Neither should Maher .
