    This angers me so much
Humane society overcrowded; issues plea to Calgarians | Metro

Hubby posted this on Facebook and someone actually blamed the hoarders and not the people who won't spay and neuter.

My responses to the person who says it is only the hoarders fault. This is going on everywhere and it feels like no one cares about the animals.
‎1. Yes they have taken in horading cats which lead to the overcrowding. They have had SOME cases. That does not equal 20-30 cats a day.
    2. They have also stated if you take your cat there they will probably be put to sleep due to overcrowding.
    3. Spaying and neutering has benefits to your cats due to decreased risk of some cancers and for female cats a problem with infection in utereus.
    4. Some facts for people. The average number of litters a fertile cat can produce in one year is 3.
The average number of kittens in a feline litter is 4–6.
In seven years, one female cat and her offspring can theoretically produce 420,000 cats.
    5. DO NOT blame this all on hoarders. Spay and neuter.

I also believe some PEOPLE should be spayed and neutered. M, you know I volunteer at a shelter, and as one of the people who have had to make that decision, who stays and who goes, it's heart breaking. I never want to do it again. It's saddening. I told you my personal thoughts, I'm not afraid to say, (let me start that I am 100% for mandatory spay and neuter laws and fix and release some shelters are doing) that as cruel as this sounds, I would rather see a cat humanly euthanized then be over bred, mis-treated or doomed to a life in a cage. People can be so selfish, especially when it comes to their animals.

Homeless stray and feral cats seem to find their way to my house and then notice the "Free food! Free food!" sign above my front door. I've adopted many of them over the years or found homes for them, but that shouldn't be what happens. They shouldn't have been born in the first place -- were maybe from litters that were permitted by human parents who wanted their children to experience the "miracle of birth" (and then the grown cats, as too much to deal with, were tossed out of a moving car near my house) or by adults too lazy to spay/neuter their animals in the first place.

The cat shelter I volunteer at believes in TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return), and we do everything we can to get the word out and help nearby communities deal with feral cat populations. Alley Cat Allies is one of our biggest mentors.

I found these two in a compost bin. I got them spayed and neutered UTD with vaccines and socialized them, and then found them wonderful homes which they still rule. I'm not a cat person per se, but I would never want to see them harmed.

Thank you Wondergirl for your comment. This article has tore me up inside. If it was only Henry and I and the pets we have now. I would be calling them up to offer to foster as many as they could give me. I want to be part of the solution but right now it is not feasible as my brothers do not want anymore pets here.

Mogrann, give your pets lots of love (and a big hug to Owen from me). I finally realized I can't save the world, but do what I can. We have four rescued cats right now and could probably take in one more if that needs to be done. My dream is to win the state lottery and build a large enough cat shelter so that no cats will ever be turned away and cats can live there as long as they have to and all will be free-range (no cages except for special cases) and will get lots of hugs and kisses from volunteers.

Here's Boswell a.k.a.Kuro at 6 months. Right now, he's 12 years old and napping on the loveseat.

Aww I like adopting the black cats as they are the ones most overlooked. I give my pets tons of love but they got extra tonight and were told it was from WG :)
