I think I got caught stealing from my employer! HELP!
So embaressed to admit this... but I've stolen from my employer... to be specific, the registers... not a lot but a few dollars here and there never more then 5$.. I know it still doesn't make it o.k.. so my loss prevention came to our store for a "routine audit" and interviewed the employees that were there, which were me,my manager and a cashier.. we all got interviewed but mine was the longest! He asked me about all the policy's of the companie,he was also giving me like examples of why sometimes employees would steal..

Loss Prevention:sometimes employees steal for gas money, bus money,a cup of cofee..
Loss Prevention:what should happened to an employee if they were to get caught stealing? Should we make them pay it back? Should we press charges?
Loss Prevention:You know technology now a days is so advanced,I could have a camera installed in here and no one may know, not even store manager, and these camera's are as small as a rice.
Loss Prevention:If someone was stealing would you be comfertable to tell us?
Loss Prevention:O.k your good to go,it was nice seeing you again.. and make sure your double counting your money to stop these overrage/shortages... and tell the other associates to be careful too..

So my question is... do they know? And if they do,why didn't they fire me? Or will they fire me after? Or what will happen??

You've got a hard lesson to learn with this one.

    Two choices...

    1. Fess up and deal with the consequences, which will be worse if you keep hiding it. You should have done this in the first place, because now you've lied to them.

    Or

    2. Keep the façade going, keep lying, and when they find out, because they will (A small camera isn't expensive and if they're going to save 200$ in the long run from you, it's worth it and they know it) then you're going to be in big trouble, legally. I can assure you if you're caught, hid it and never turned yourself in, good luck finding another job.

First: admitting to a crime on the internet is not smart.

Second: how should we know if your employer knows you're a thief?

If you admit to it, the chances of you getting canned are reduced. But, if you are still fired, it's likely they will be lenient and force you to resign rather than fire you, as it looks better for future employment.

But, if you are caught in a lie, you will be fired that day and they will not provide a recommendation to future employers. No one wants to hire a thief and and a liar.

O.k.. but I'm not fired right now.. I'm still went to work after that, and I'm still on the schedule.. that's why I was asking why haven't I gotten fired yet? He never pointed the finger at me,and when he left he even said... "Ohh I like your nail color by the way, suites you good".. he was being nice to me.. so maybie he strongly suspects it's me,but can't really prove it.. right? But I'm sure now he will monitor my every move.

It sounds like they have noted the shortage but can't prove who is responsible. Maybe they were hoping to make you feel guilty that you would confess or reveal tell tales (sweating nervousness, etc.) that would give them a clue.

But as of this point it looks like you may have gotten away with it. But it also means they will be watching you extra carefully and you won't get away with it again.
