I have made the most horible mistake of my life. I put through two empty envelopes through the bank machine and withdrew a total of $700 dollars. I live in canada and I am very scared as I am raising my grandchildren and there is no one else to raise them.

Will I go to jail ? Ive never been charged before and I am so so scared I don't know what to do I just got stressed out and wasn't thinking . Somebody please help.
I know what I did was so wrong Im not a bad person I just made a huge mistake and don't have the money to pay it off immediately, Im very very scared.

    Thank you anybody

Based on your previous posts, I'd say you're posting here for kicks.

    Hello Teq:

I don't understand what you're looking for. Do you want us to tell what will happen, or do you want us to tell you what to DO about it?

I ask that, because you have already said that you can't/won't DO the most obvious thing, which is to PAY the money back BEFORE criminal charges are brought.

If you don't/can't do that, for sure you're not going to hire a lawyer which is the only OTHER thing you can do..

So what do you want? If you just SIT there, the cops will come and take you away and your grandchildren too.

NO I guess I was worrying and didn't explain myself very well I do apologize. I did contact the bank by email and told them my account was going to go into over draft and I would pay it on the 25th.
What Im looking for is do banks press charges for this kind of thing ?
I usually do correspond with the bank using email so in the mean time do I just sit and wait or what should I do and do you think they will let it go considering I told them when I would pay it back?

    Hello again, Teq:

Yeah. It's STEALING. Banks don't like it much.

I apologize. I jumped to conclusions, as you made similar posts a few months ago. Are you in a nine step program? Do you have a sponsor or counselor you can speak with? Having a counselor in your corner might help when dealing in legal matters... he or she can attest that you've been struggling and had a weak moment, perhaps? I wish you the best.

It's OK Ren I totally understand it happens no apologize needed what I did was something wrong and if I am criminally charged its my own fault I'm just more worried about the kids.
I received a response from the bank they said as of yet my account isn't showing the transactions but they contacted their credit department to let them know when I will pay it off. I guess all I can do is wait and hope for the best and that someone upstairs is looking out for me.
Two years ago I joined a gambling anonyomous forum I have just rejoined again as it really did help a lot.
The problem is there is a lot going on in my life and everyone counts on me to deal and fix everything but no one wants to help out yanno 5 kids 5 grand kids husband who's a truck driver and I just get frustrated and that's what I do is gamble when things get out of control.
I guess a sponsor would really help I could vent to someone and relieve some stress.
Thanks so much for wishing me the best I appreciate it.

I'm not following what you did. Are you saying you entered deposits, but using empty envelopes to boost your balance and then withdrew the money because the deposits were instantly credited?

That is fraud and banks are very likely to prosecute it.

I know this is a law question, but THIS is the root of your problem.

You are/were involved in a "gambling anonymous forum"? Is that online? The best thing for you to do is go to Gamblers Anonymous, and get a sponsor. GO to the meetings, don't attempt to work a 12 step program on the computer. It simply isn't as effective. If you are truly serious about beating this overwhelmingly powerful addition, go here: Gamblers Anonymous Official Home Page , they're free, anonymous, and worldwide.

GO get a sponsor at a meeting near you. The program isn't as successful without one.

Someone who has longevity in abstinence.

I wish you luck with the bank issue as well.

Thank you so much for that link.

I went on a gamblers anyonomous forum and vented about everything and it was so good to get it out Im not so scared anymore I realize that I made a mistake and need to own up and fix this myself.
I was scared and worried this morning and looked long and hard for this forum to see if there was any posts of any other people doing what I did.
Monday morning Im going to call the bank and make an appointment to speak to the bank manager on Tuesday as my grandson goes to day care. Ask her if there is some kind of restrictions they can put on my account so I can still pay my bills. But before I go I am going to sign myself out of both casinos as I have put this off and put this off because I gain control over it and don't go then things get rough and I do stupid things like this and the only way its going to stop is if I own up to what I did be honest and do everything to stop it from happening again I hate feeling like a criminal.
I really appreicate everyone's input and advice it has helped me a great deal today and hopefully for my future.

Have a friend help you find things to sell in order to make compensatory payments to the bank. Explain to the bank officer that you indeed have a gambling problem, and are trying to turn your life around.

It's not going to be easy, like any other successful recovery from addictions. I know first hand, as I am in recovery from alcohol and prescription painkillers.

We will ALWAYS be addicts, and should live our life in a manner of recovery. It's not going to happen overnight. You'll need help, that's when the 12 step program comes in.

Good luck and stay in the group.
