In 2005 I had a physical altercation with my daughter outside my home. The Division of Youth and Family Services wqas involved. Yes, I did abuse her. I regret that everyday of my life. I was going through a very bad time in my life. I wasn't aware I was suffering with bipolar disordeer and depression and seisures due to a "malformation of my brain during conception" as one doctor told me. I was cxrazy at that time I do admit. I don't want to excuse what I did. It was wrong! My daughter was never taken away from me and put in a foster home. I was never charged with any criminal act. My entire family went for therapy for over a year. My remained in the home with me.

I received a letter sometime after the incident stating child abuse was substantiated. I was told I appealeld it and was found to be at fault. I don't have aproblem with the findings. My issue is that for over fifteen years I have workwed in the child care business with an impeccable record. My name was placed on the rnational child abuse registry because of the incident relating to my daughter. I don't feel that I should be denied the privilege of working with children because of a terrible mistake I made in the past. I love working with children. Even after I received a letter stating the incident was substantiated I continued to work with children. I didn't withohold the information from my prospective employers. They were aware of the situation as soon as I was hired. I knew it would come up once I filled in the CARI form. I had three jobs in private day care centers since the 2005 incident. I wan not denied employment.

However, I was 'laid off' immediately from my current job once it received a letter from the Office of Licensing, a divion of DYFS (Division of Youth and Family Services). I do not fault my job from doing what the law requires them to do. I just want to go back to work.

My question(s) are: If I can work for day care centers even after child abuse charges were substantiated against, why not now? Why did they wait so long to process the paperwork while I continue to work in the child care business? If I were a danger to children, why didn't DYFS prevent me from working with children all these years? Why now? I'm a fifty-three year old woman who is in limbo. I don't have a degree. I want to complete my degree in the Early Childhood Education. I can't pursue my educational endeavors if I'm prevented from working with children. I have over 25 certificates earned working in the early childhood environment. Al of that training will go to waste. I don't know what to do.

I know it's difficult to get your name off the registry once it's on there. However, I would like to try to have my name removed from it.

There is a difference in disciplining your children, and abusing them. For whatever reason, we as parents, should know where to draw the line.

You should state that as far as you know you never had a chance to properly defend yourself and you would like a copy of your records and make sure you state on the same letter that you would like all allegations ex sponged from there system. They will send you're your records in about a week and than you can get a character letter from your daughter, and your jobs it will be great if they were in the child care field send them that and they can make a decision to clear your name within 30 days in the office or you will get a court date. But I kept calling every week for follow up and it took just under 30 days to clear my name I'm so happy. I hope this was helpful .
