    Consequences of shoplifting
    Consequences of shoplifting
    Hi
My sis was caught shoplifting in sainsburys in london. The staff recovered the stuff from her while she was going from the exit(she had paid for half of the stuff at self check out).
Then they called the police and police fined her an amount of 80 Pounds. She paid the fine the next day. But they said that she was banned from all the stores and sainsburys will go for civil recovery claim.
I need to ask is she banned from all the stores in London or all around the country?
And second question what if she will not pay civil recovery claim. The thing is she was in a rened house and yesterday te contract expired so she went to a new place but she had given them her that address. So now even if they send her any letter she won't be able to get it.so what she can do.
And last question Police told her that she will be on their database for next 5 Years, what does this mean?
Please help me getting the answers as me nad my sis are very much worried

1 - The usual method is to ban her from all stores. In fact, she can be arrested for trespassing if she enters any of the stores. Will anyone recognize her? No way of knowing.

2 - Giving false identifying info is an additional crime. They can and will track her down. No one disappears.

3 - This means she'll be in the Police database for 5 years. It's pretty clear. If she is stopped again within those 5 years this history will show when her name is checked, and she won't be able to just walk away.

I'd be a lot more worried about the bad address than the shoplifting. Stealing from a store and lying to the Police are two very different matters.

    Hi
Thanks for the answer but I also need to ask as she didn't actually know that her contract will not extend so she gave her address of that time and she didn't give any false identification.
And secondly what about if she won't pay civil recovery claim as she will not be able to get the letter now and keeping in mind she paid the fine the next day only.
And one more thing she will be in police database does that mean sheand her husband will any problem in getting visa for holidays.
Please tell me what we can do.
