Can a form protect me if my roommate is prescribed a controlled substance?
I have a roommate I care for including picking up her meds from the pharmacy. 1 of them is a controlled substance. Should I carry some kind of form signed by her for legal purposes. We live in Georgia?

I would, and not just a signature, but a notarized one. People have gone to jail for having controlled substances in their possession that did not belong to them

Controlled substances include your address on the bottle, unlike ordinary ones. You have an ID, presumably, with the same address. That and a copy of your agreement to take care of her are all you should need. I see no need for a notary. Make the drugstore your last stop before going home.

Just to be direct, you should not be picking it up. Nor should they be giving it to you unless she has signed at the store to allow you to have it.

There is not FORM> they can write out a letter giving you permission, and should give you one each time. it should be dated for the date you pick it up.

But is there more to this, are you on probation or parole ?

Is her name on the label, a very recent date, plus the pharmacy name and phone number? It should be easy for police to check.

Where I live in Georgia, the police don't check anything. They prefer to arrest you and let the judge decide or check it. That is why I want to make sure I am doing everything legal. I don't want go to jail or have an arrest record not to mention the expense and humiliation.

Where I live in CT, prescription bottles for non-narcotic medications have name only. Narcotic prescriptions include name and address.
