    What should I do
    I had an account ith discover card it was only 3,000 dollard I couldn afford to pay it and it went up to 6000 anyway I got a lawyers form discover card saying I have to start to pay in October I started to pay with first 1,000 the first month then four hundred a month in January and February of 2008 I skipped payments because things was very tough then in march I payen for January, February and march and two weekw ago received a summons saying to go to court as soon as you receive thisletter and you may need to contact your lawyer. The letter was stamped since in January, then last eek I receive another letter saying to go to court and my payment is up to dated discover. I cannot afford a lawyer or do not want to go to court what should I do?

    You need to go to court or the full amount they are claiming will go in their favor.
    If you go to court the Judge could very likely rule that you only have to pay the principle or a more minimal amount.
    Make sure you take all proof of payments.

    Sorry... I guess I am a little confused. You said you received a summons saying you have to "go to court as soon as you receive this" letter.

    Is the summons from the court and does it have a specific date for you to appear, or at least some direction on how to answer the summons?

    The reason I ask it that it would not be unusual for a collection agency to send some bogus letter to coerce you into paying. Often, it is not even legal.

    If you can post a little more information, maybe we can guide you in the right direction.
