Elderly Parent Credit Problems
My mom is 84, has recently had a heart attack, and is in poor health. My father passed away a few years back and my mom has gone through everything left to her. She is presently collecting her social security. She has no other income. She is upside down or even at best on her house and has $16,000 in credit card debt. I have two daughters in college, both my wife and I work full time and we can not afford to pay her credit card bills. Her monthly payments are such that after mortgage, insurance, utilities etc there is nothing left for her to live on. We have been sending money monthly but we need to find out the proper course in dealing with this credit card debt. She lives in Texas, we are attempting to sell her house but things look doubtful in the current market. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
