When Baking, is "High Altitude" Considered to be from Sea Level or Ground Level?
    Hi, All!

The title is my basic question.

I see this a lot on the packages of things that we might bake about options to use if we would like what we might bake to be a certain way according to whether we're baking at a high altitude or not.

Where I live, we're over 5,000 feet above sea level. For every box I've seen of something to bake, that would be considered to be a high altitude, if the measurement is taking from sea level.

So, how is altitude figured when baking something? Is it from sea level or ground level, please?

    Thanks!

It is all based on sea level, ground level is always ground level unless you are baking in an airplane.

Oops! I was incorrect about the elevation around here! We're actually around (+ or -) 600' above sea level.

    Thanks!
