Chef's Salad is great when fresh veggies are available.

Give up all fast food, pop (even diet kills your teeth) & prepackaged foods.

We like Chicago Style dogs with lots of fresh veggies on them.

We have replaced chips and dip with potato wedges cooked in ranch dressing.

    Drink lots of water!

    Hi there!

I live in tuscany, which happens to have the healthiest ways of eating in the world (tied with parts of japanese cuisine).

Here's a real secret I've learned to keeping a great figure and eating like a king (or queen): use top quality extra virgin olive oil - quality absolutely makes a difference here. It's very, very good for you. It contains no cholesterol, it's full of vitamins, it contains anti-oxidants, it has anti-inflammatory properties, and I whole-heartedly believe that one day we're going to find out that it is, itself, the fountain of youth. It's also delicious, and can be used liberally - especially, that is, if it's used without being heated. When I first moved here, I thought it was just another fat. I can promise you that I have lost my fears because of good extra virgin olive oil. You need good fats in your diet to keep you satiated and to keep your brain working properly.

You can just throw out your butter. Never, ever, ever use margarine or eat anything made with trans-fats.

Don't eat pre-packaged foods. It doesn't matter what they are - they're positively terrible for you. This includes the diet garbage. Real foods (i.e. things that you can immediately identify as having come out of the ground) are the only things worth eating.

    Drink lots of water.

Green tea is a good addition for adults. It contains all kinds of anti-oxidants.

Eat lots and lots of fruits and vegetables. If you eat enough of them, you'll feel comfortably full.

Throw out your bottled salad dressings. Make vinaigrettes at home (with extra virgin olive oil). They're very, very quick and easy to make; they're elegant; and they're absolutely delicious. You can find various recipes online in a flash.

Also, don't eat immediately before you go to bed. Get lots of sleep. If you don't sleep enough, it can make you feel hungrier than normal.

And keep your plate as colorful as you can get it! Each color actually represents the different vitamins and nutrients within. Plus, it's an attractive, appealing way of eating.

I'm totally not convinced by the atkins thing. My mom, who is tall, forever slim and also used to be a runway model, swears by it, but I do not think it's smart. Italians (as in born and raised in italy - italian-american food culture is actually quite different) eat pasta at least once a day, and they are pictures of health.

If you can find some books on authentic tuscan cuisine, you might find you love it as much as I do! Buon appetito! :)
