    How long does it take to boil an egg?

    You looking for hard boiled eggs or soft boiled eggs?

    Hard boiled eggs should cook 12-15 minutes.

    Soft boiled eggs should cook 4-6 minutes.

    The real trick to getting it right is bringing the water to a hard boil, then reducing the heat to just below simmering. You need to do that so the eggs don't crack as you cook them.

    Put eggs in cold water, bring to a boil turn heat off and cover for 20 min perfect hard boiled every time
