    How do you determine the notch on top of a 2x4 shed plate, making a 3 or 4 pitch

    Usually it a third of the width of the 2x being used.
    Measure up the plumb line an 1 1/8" then draw a line 90 degrees to that plumbline. This is your notch, aka: birdsmouth

    To make the cuts use a simple speed square and mark the board on a 4 common for the top cut. For the seat cut mark the top cut then put the base of the square along your mark so you can mark a 90 degree line for the cut to sit on the wall.
