House built in 2000... finding cracks?
We've found a crack in our garage that starts at the top of the wall (where the ceiling meets the wall) and it goes down to the floor.

We've also found above our garage where the brick is a crack that goes down the center of the brick.

What is going on. My husband wants to sell. This house was built in 2000 or 2001. Is this normal or should we sell?

Most cracks are caused by settling or temp. change and are fairly normal.but there could be bigger problems like was the house built over wet lands.

    Hi dancer

If u can post a picture, we may be able to help.

The cracking over a door or window is normal settling. What u describe is a lot more and sounds like foundation problems. The pic would help.

    Good luck

I agree with the wet lands comment. Some properties have springs too near to the surface and each time it rains the water will pool in the yard. If you have no basement there is a good possibility about the too close to the surface springs.

How many cracks are normal in a new house? [ 2 Answers ]

My house is 5 years old and 98% of all my door casings are separating at the both corners- several of the windows are separating and the fire place is also separating - by separating I mean there is now a small gap. I am worried that the house may have a structural issue.
