    Windows vista
I am having problems playing games and using software on Windows Vista
    Is this normal with Vista?
Also I was wondering what video editing software would be good to use.
It doesn't have to be professional, just a basic one would do the trick.

If you have over 2GB ram and over 1.8ghz intel duo
Put a 256 mb graphic card
If you have 1GB ram and over 1.6ghz intel duo
Put a 128 mb graphic card
If lesser vista will really slow down your PC/Laptop
    So keep XP running

It depends on the games and the software you're trying to run, but ideally no. Software that has a Vista logo should work the best. Check with your software's vendor for possible Vista related updates. For games, ensure that your video card drivers are up to date, are Vista versions, and preferably WHQL certified. If you upgraded to Vista, ensure that drivers for all devices are Vista versions.

How basic and free is acceptable? Vista includes Windows Movie Maker.

Boy, this post leaves a lot of room for someone to come in and just start bashing Vista and tell you it's the cause of all your troubles. What games are you trying to play? Newer games that are optimized for Vista have been reported to run GREAT! Do you have Vista's SP1 installed?

I just have vista home edition.
It was just on my computer when I bought it.
Some of the games are a couple of years old, some are new.
I don't know too many games here in australia that have the vista (not that I have been looking really hard) logo on them.

With the video editing software, I just want 1 that can edit video and be put onto a DVD quite easily.

I have Vista Home as well. All games I have installed have worked. What kind of errors are you getting?

Windows Movie Maker should be good enough to help you make your DVDs.

Well, yeah, and there's also a lot of older games out there that weren't optimized for Vista that people still want to play.

    True
vista and games and just not it
Maybe in service pack 1 there is improvement
But in premium and basic it's a really bad state if you are a good gamer
