Hi everyone,

Every time I turn my computer on, after shutting down the night before, it takes for every to do whatever it is doing. Sounds like it's running something. Are these updates. After 10 minutes, or maybe more, once it settles in, it's find.

Is it because I shut it down at night and not do a restart to capture updates?

I routinely do scans and defragmented runs as well. Or do I have too much stuff for it to
Upload or whatever it is doing.

Just was wondering if there was a way I could turn on the computer, have it take a couple of minutes and begin utilizing with the lovely hourglass all the time.

Sound like you are running WAAAAAy too much rubbish on start up.

Now go and grab a copy of CCleaner (CCleaner - Home), install it and run the Cleaner, Registry and then do a screen print of Tools > Start up.

Now either post that here or mail it over and I'll tell you want is unneeded for startup.

There's a whole bunch of programs you will be able to "turn off" in this way as they are pretty much useless. ;)

There may be some long bootups for update related activity, but not daily.

If the hard drive activity light is running nonstop for all those minutes, you may have insufficient physical memory for the amount of software that is loading simultaneously at startup and you're experiencing swap file thrash as each application gets its turn at doing its thing. In addition to disabling startup items, adding memory could improve the situation.

Double posting I know :( but it's like lighting speed now.

I cleaned up and restarted the machine, whaaaat a major difference.

One other thing that will help as well.
Microsoft has a program called BootVis. BootVis will look at the drivers that are loading when you boot your computer and optimize them for much quicker load time. It's pretty simple to use, if you're interested let me know and I'll post some quick directions.

You have too many things in startup folder. Try taking out things in startup you are not using then run the cc cleaner as stated in another post, and post the results. Then whatever they tell you to take out, you can run msconfig to remove them.

CCleaner is the best free program that I have ever found, and I am a freak about looking for good programs! ;) It is so quick and efficient, it also bundles all the cleaning tools and defrag all in one convenient little program! Hurray for CCLEANER!
