You need to know what audio card you have (manufacturer). If you done have an audio card and it's built into the motherboard, you need to find the make and model of your motherboard and install those drivers.
HP wouldn't have that information 99% of the time.
This is why I build all my PC's!

Hi,
Try to contact the HP service desk if you can get support. Or else, as answeromatic says, check the manufacturer and version of the hardware that you have got on your desktop.
Cheers!

Curious, if you are using Windows Vista, why did you install Windows XP, Service Pac 2 on Vista. They are two different operating platforms.
As I said, just curious.

This is why I don't recommend going back to XP on a system designed for Vista.
Its very likely that the soundcard built into the laptop is not supported by XP. I would suggest using the Recovery partition and return to factory settings.

Hi Bienvenu,
Unfortunately, Windows Vista and Windows XP do NOT go well. So, you need to uninstall the SP2.
Let me know if you need help.
Cheers!
