    Quicktime
I'm not really sure what kind of program quicktime is classified as, but was wondering is there any other programs that can do the same thing that quick time does?

Quicktime is a media player from Apple that uses the .mov format.

There is a free version available here:
    Apple - QuickTime - Download

If you are after an alternate then VLC is worth a look:

QuickTime plays music and video, it's a very good program but to get a fully featured version that allows full-screen display you have to buy it.

DivX and RealPlayer are also very popular.

I chime in to second Curlyben's recommendation of VLC media player - I love it, it plays everything.
