    Umm.. I'm a bit confused!
    MP3 is a compressed media format. If you have zipped music tracks, you must unzip them first and then convert to MP3, or in the case of RAR you "extract" the files (much the same thing as unzipping).

    You'll need a utility like 7-Zip or similar to open RAR's. Also, if your files are in a Windows format (WMA or WMV) you'll have to use a program to convert them to MP3 or MP4 - there are free converters to be found on sites like Tucows or 100 Downloads.

    Zip/rar are archive files, like Darkclaw says, use a archiving program such as winzip or winrar to un-archive it.
