All "rebooting" means is turning off the computer and turning it back on. Is that what you mean? Or are you talking about reformatting the hard drive (wipe it clean) and reinstall everything from scratch?

If you mean reformat/reinstall... with a laptop it's supposed to be simple.

Turn on the laptop and immediately start tapping F11... see if that activates a built in "recovery console" for the laptop. One of your options in a recovery console should Factory Restore, which sets the laptop back to new condition, like it just came out of the box for the first time.

Another way to add, is having an OS disk you choose and when re-starting your computer and boot to the new os disk. You then have to delete the exsisting partitions and re install the os on to the deleted partition.

Laptop screen repair? Useful life of a laptop? [ 3 Answers ]

I have an IBM Thinkpad X40. Have had it for 3 years Spilt liquid on the screen a while ago and now, although the screen works still, it has a kind of mottled tidemark effect and is dark in places (can also see where drops of water are permanently "stuck" behind the screen). Is this fixable?...
