    Recovering files and programs
Okay I seem to know just enough about my computor to be dangerous. I was in the middle of a restore, and the plug came out. I lost everything. It wouldn't even start. I kept getting the same message that would go away before I could read it. So, I figured that I had lost everything. All my music, my pictures, my documents, my programs etc. So I've been searching around trying to get back some of the programs that I've lost.
I've found some of them, but the thing is when I download them it goes straight to run this file like it has already been downloaded, and just waiting for me to open it.
Does this mean that there is a way for me to get my stuff back, as if it's already on my hard drive waiting for some command or program to get it back?

    Hi,
I'm not sure that u can get anything back. First how many partitions do u have/had? Did u restore the data or just the system? If the data was on a different partition u might just get it back as there are third party applications for hard disk data recovery. U can try to do another restore ( if u were restoring the system) maybe your hard disk still works.

LOL, like I said I know just enough to be a danger. When I tried to do another restore it would only go back to today's date. I really don't know what partitions are. Once it would not boot, I figured the only thing I could do was to use the disks that came with my computor to at least get myself the basics, which I have now. I figured there would be no way to get all the programs and stuff back, but I was hoping. :o . Thank you for taking some time to try and help.
