My computer has been invaded by popups. Is there a way to get them to stop?

Is this something new ? If it is then you need to check for Malware and Virus first.

If you are using Firefox or cometbird means just type your address bar as about:config and then it shows list of things. Now you type your pop sites in search. Then right click on that reset it.

Use the free version of this: https://www.malwarebytes.org/lp/lp4/...FYI7Mgod0kAAKQ
Remove everything it finds. If it wants to run after a reboot, let it.

Definitely first and foremost, a virus scan, and maleware scan

If you are visiting sites that are loaded with popups, and its not virus/maleware related, you can just install a good popup blocker like Adblock Plus. It runs in the browser and blocks ads and popups. Perfect with Firefox, but other browsers are supported also.

Furthermore, you may want to try AdwCleaner from bleepingcomputer.com if you are infected with maleware. It will remove toolbars and PuP's that malewarebytes may not. Do read the instructions on the web page before you decide to use this tool.
