Hallo

About 4 months ago I got a new laptop at work. I installed the program Convertx to DVD... which was working fine. A few days ago I wanted to convert an avi file to dvd format using this program... I didn't want to work. I then uninstalled the program via the add/or remove programs. I then got a new file tried installing this. It gave me the message "Extracting file failed. It is most likely caused by low memory (low disk space for swapping file) or corrupted Cabinet file" when trying to click on the setup file.

Right after I click OK on this message my anti virus pops us with a message saying that a trojan horse has been detected and then quarantines the files. I then permanently delte those. I have tried the same thing over and over, and got the new program from various sources and the same thing happens. I have also read up on this on this website and did a error check on the hard drive today... by right clicking on the "c" drive, properties, tools then error check. I also asked it to repair any errors found.

I then tried re installing the program and the same thing happened. I don't know what else to do as I am not a computer boffin. This computer is brand new and I definitely have enough space on it. I don't know if this will happen to installing other programs as I have not yet tried.

Please help! I am specifically worried about the Trojan Horse message.

Don't worry about the Torjan. That's why u have the anti virus.. and it caught it.

Go to tucows or downlaod.com and try a different program. There are tons of other apps that do the same thing.

Make sure you're not downloading and installing pirate copies of commercially sold software and the trojan horse threat will go away. It's not worth risking your computer, your sanity, or hours/days of recovery from an infestation to save $40 on a piece of software, is it?

Only download the programs from legitimate sources.

If it's trialware, pay for the thing, or just buy a commercial product NOW. If you convert files that often, shouldn't you use a piece of software from a company that you can ask questions to directly?

Any software you are going to use more than a few times, I always recommend looking at the commercial products, or ask on sites like this one for legitimate freeware suggestions.
