Take the monitor connector off the back of the computer and look at it carefully under bright light. There are 15 pins and all of them must be straight and the same length.

Just as a test, see if you can borrow a monitor from another computer just long enough to plug it in and see if you get a clean picture with a different monitor.

If you have the same flakey picture with a different monitor, then the video card is most likely the culprit.

Fortunately, most computers have a spot inside for you to easily install another one. Ask around, I'm sure you can get someone brave to install it for you.

If you can't find someone to install it for you or help, then we can "try" to help you remotely. You'll need to tell us the exact make and model of your computer and we can help you pick a replacement card.

It would be better to have a human help, and this is really easy, all things considered. I am sure you can find someone to spare the 20 minutes it will take to do this.
